Achieving Our Greatness: The Intern Story

This blog post is bittersweet.

Today is bittersweet because it marks my last blog post as a Skillsoft intern. I can still recall the first meeting the interns and I had this summer with this small idea. To create a platform of tips, advice, and lessons we’ve learned and share it with college students that were also navigating internships and virtual learning during a pandemic. Discussing this concept, we were all so excited! It was simple, yet something we knew could connect with so many young learners.

To get the blog created, the interns had to all come together and make a proposal to present to our managers, director of the website, director of content, and the company’s CMO. I recall going into the meeting nervous because this was a project we all were passionate about, and we knew it could bring young learners together weekly. The meeting was a great success, and the rest is history! The “Achieving our Greatness” intern blog was underway.

The following weeks revolved around my fellow interns and me deciding the imagery we could use, writing the content for our first post, and waiting to have our page on the website created to upload our posts.

On July 15th, 2020, the intern page was created along with our first post. Being able to log onto the website and see all of our hard work displayed and now the ability to share our stories was a fantastic moment. I took a screenshot of it and sent it to my family. I was so excited!

This is the screenshot I had taken the day our blogs began to go live!

And that’s why this moment is so bittersweet for me! Skillsoft allowed me to work on a project that we were passionate about. It gave us a sense of responsibility and a platform to connect with other college students.

When you’re applying to internships, you always hear the messaging from companies that they want you to learn and have the ability to bring new ideas to the table. Skillsoft truly delivered, and the intern blog is a fantastic example of how. Four young women had a vision of bringing our peers together in a time of uncertainty, and Skillsoft listened and allowed us to chase after the idea. I couldn’t be more grateful for the time I spent at Skillsoft as an intern. I (virtually) met so many amazing people and have been exposed to the entire marketing field. I was always encouraged to speak up, ask questions, and never discouraged from trying a new project. Skillsoft’s messaging has always been to “Unleash your Edge,” and as an organization, the managers want to help you do so.

Next week I am beginning the final semester of my senior year of college, and it is surreal. These past four years have been nothing short of amazing, and the friendships I’ve made and lessons I’ve learned I will carry with me forever. It is a little scary entering my last semester of college, knowing that the past 16 years of schooling have come to an end after the next four months. But I know this internship has helped me build a fantastic skill set to leverage as I embark on this new journey.

Thank you to all of my amazing mentors, colleagues, and friends I have made at Skillsoft! I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
